"In the afternoon of March 31st, 1998 (a few hours later and nobody would have believed us), we have observed BEC in ⁸⁷Rb. The experimental setup is the same as the one used for our Cs collision experiments. It has been converted to Rb in January 1998. The condensation is well reproducible.

• Number of atoms in the condensate: 4 x 10⁵
• Number of atoms present at T_c: 3 x 10⁶
• T_c = 400 nanoKelvin
• Trap: double MOT system with a 3-coil Ioffe-Pritchard magnetic trap
• Loading time: 1 minute
• Evaporation time: 1 minute
