[Historical report created from GSU BEC Homepage:]
"In the afternoon of March 31st, 1998 (a few hours later and nobody would have believed us), we have observed BEC in 87Rb. The experimental setup is the same as the one used for our Cs collision experiments. It has been converted to Rb in January 1998. The condensation is well reproducible.
- Number of atoms in the condensate: 4 x 105
- Number of atoms present at Tc: 3 x 106
- Tc = 400 nanoKelvin
- Trap: double MOT system with a 3-coil Ioffe-Pritchard magnetic trap
- Loading time: 1 minute
- Evaporation time: 1 minute
The team involved in this experiment is:
- Pierre Desbiolles
- David Guery-Odelin
- Johannes Soding
- Jean Dalibard
Other people involved in the realization of the Cs setup are:
- Markus Arndt
- Maxime Ben Dahan
- Jan Eichhorn
- Gabriele Ferrari
- Olivier Verzelen"
