First degenerate Fermi gas in the UK

In our apparatus we use 40K atoms which we initially prepare in a vapor cell magento-optical trap. Subsequently the atoms are transported into an ultrahigh vacuum chamber, using a pair of moveable magnetic coils. In the ultrahigh vacuum chamber we transfer the atoms into a Ioffe-Pritchard trap in which we perform RF induced evaporative cooling. After transfer into an optical dipole trap and forced evaopration we obtain a quantum degenerate Fermi gas of approximately 10^5 atoms. The final trapping frequencies are approximately 2π*(20,100,300) Hz.
