We have recently (7. june 2004) been able to achieve Bose-Einstein condensation of Rb. The signatures of a BEC are the sudden appearance of a bimodal density distribution and an anisotropic aspect ratio: The condensed fraction has an elliptic shape and is located within a larger isotropic thermal cloud. We reach the threshold to quantum degeneracy with 5*105 Rb atoms at 1 µK.
