Research Fellow - Space Optical Clock - Physics and Astronomy - 902784 - Grade 7
A range of new applications are enabled by ultra-precise optical clocks, including tests of General Relativity, time and frequency metrology, geophysics and potential applications in astronomy including detection of black holes and gravitation wave detection. Our Space Optical Clock (SOC2, http://www.exphy.uni-duesseldorf.de/optical_clock/soc2/index.php) has achieved a stability of 3x10-18 and uncertainty of 2x10-17. The research fellow is expected to be the driving force behind the operation and further development of the SOC2 demonstrator.
The project is in close collaboration with project partners and the ability to work across disciplines is expected. The fellow will have access to our state-of-the art labs and will also benefit from the European Collaborations as well as from our direct link to the UK National Quantum Technology Hub in Sensors and Metrology (https://www.quantumsensors.org/news/). This is a fantastic opportunity to enhance their profile in precision timekeeping with optical lattice clocks. We are looking for some one hardworking and earlier experience with cold atoms/optical clocks is certainly an advantage.
