Research and Development Engineer Symmetricom Beverly, MA, United States Regular Symmetricom (NASDAQ: SYMM), a world leader in precise time solutions, sets the world's standard for time. Symmetricom's customers, from communications service providers and network equipment manufacturers to governments and their suppliers worldwide, are able to build more reliable networks and systems by using the company's advanced timing technologies, atomic clocks, services and solutions. Symmetricom's Beverly, MA-based Research Group is in search of a Research Scientist to support the development, assembly, and test of prototype atomic physics based devices and instruments. The Research Group at Symmetricom's Beverly, MA facility is responsible for the innovation and realization of next-generation state-of-the-art atomic clock technology. The group consists of a small number of highly skilled and technically agile physicists and engineers. Products under development include next-generation high-performance atomic clocks, gyroscopes, and magnetometers. The responsibilities of this position include the development and test of prototype physics assemblies, electronics, and packaging. The ideal candidate will have a broad base of physics and engineering coursework as well as practical experience in assembly and test of complex systems, comfort and familiarity with basic laboratory equipment, and good communication skills. Required Qualifications: BS or BA in Physics, Engineering Physics, or EE Hands on experience building and testing prototype devices U.S. citizen or permanent resident Desired Experience: MS in physics or EE Experience with programming in C and C++ Experience with assembling and testing digital and analog electronic circuits. Use of oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, logic analyzer, and other basic test equipment Experience with Labview Qualifications: Broad physics and engineering knowledge with an ability to troubleshoot and isolate problems within a complex system Effectively communicates in small group settings Can effectively write specifications, test and development documents Works well in a small team environment Self-motivated and independent worker
