Postdoctoral Position in Cold Atom/BEC Physics

position expired
Hanscom AFB, Massachusetts
The Air Force Research Laboratory at Hanscom AFB, MA, seeks a candidate for a postdoctoral position in confined cold and ultracold atom interferometry research. Candidates will support experimental efforts in association with current research at AFRL (Bedford, MA). The goal of this research is to develop a microchip sized matter wave interferometer for the precision measurement of rotation. The postdoctoral associate will be working on efficient transport of cold atoms from a MOT to the chip trap, designing chip traps and investigating dispersion control in waveguides, as well as modeling the phase coherence of BECs, the super-positions of cold atoms and the effects of various noise sources on phase coherence. This position will have a salary equivalent to that of an NRC Associate and is expected to have a term of 1-3 years based on projected funding levels. . AFRL is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.

A qualified applicant will have a PhD in physics, be a US citizen, and possess expertise in experimental atomic physics.
