Postdoctoral Fellowship (3 years) in Theoretical Physics (A488-09B)

position expired
Massey University, Auckland, New Zealand
This is an opportunity for a recent graduate with PhD in theoretical physics to contribute to the project: “Icy tornadoes in the quantum world – Josephson junctions of Bose-Einstein condensates” funded by the Marsden fund of New Zealand. The goal of the project is to study effects of quantum fluctuations and entanglement generation in the dynamics of Bose-Einstein condensates. Macroscopic quantum tunneling and the formation of Schrödinger cat states could be produces by Bose-Einstein condensates in analogy to Josephson Junctions of superconductors. The postdoc will use and contribute to the development of stochastic field simulation methods as well as work on the theory of decoherence in ultra-cold atom systems. As the successful candidate, you will be part of an international collaboration with Swinburn University of Technology in Australia. Locally you will be part of the Centre for Theoretical Chemistry and Physics at Massey University (Albany Campus) in Auckland and will benefit from an active research environment with close links to the New Zealand Institute for Advanced Study and an active community of cold-atom and quantum-optics researchers in Australasia. Further details about the position and the application procedure are to be found on the Massey Jobs web site http://jobs.massey.ac.nz/positiondetail.asp?p=6286.
