Postdoc Experimental Quantum Gas Physics
The Department of Physics and Astronomy, Aarhus University, invites applications for a postdoc position in experimental quantum gas physics.
The position is available from March 1, 2022
Job description
Our research explores collective phenomena in ultracold quantum gases composed of neutral atoms and contributes to the development of future quantum technologies. The prospective work will involve the exploration of polaronic quantum states using an existing experimental apparatus. This will include experiment design, lab work, data analysis and theoretical modelling of the experiment. Further details of the ongoing research can be found at https://phys.au.dk/uqgg0.
The successful candidate will interact with researchers in the Center for Complex Quantum Systems (CCQ) (https://phys.au.dk/ccq) at Aarhus University, which offers exciting opportunities for collaborative research at the interface of quantum optics, quantum information science and many-body physics.
Who are you?
Applicants should hold a PhD degree in physics. We are looking for talented and highly motivated applicants with a keen interest in quantum optics and quantum many-body physics. The successful candidate has a background in experimental cold atom physics and has demonstrated an ability for original research. The applicant will have the possibility of advising PhD students in the group and to take on some teaching duties. We are aware of the under representation of minorities in physics, and welcome a diverse group of researchers who pursue early stage research with us.
Who we are
The successful candidate will be offered a lively and inspiring research environment through broad collaborative quantum science initiative CCQ at the department. The CCQ strives to create ideal conditions for the personal and scientific development of its postdocs, who are encouraged to participate in a variety of transferable skill courses, workshops and programs, offered by Aarhus University. Denmark is known for a high quality of life and a healthy work-life balance, and the city of Aarhus offers many recreational and cultural activities in a safe, tolerant and casual atmosphere.
The place of work is Ny Munkegade 120, DK-8000 Aarhus C, and the area of employment is Aarhus University with related departments. Please see https://phys.au.dk/en/ for further information about the hosting Department for Physics and Astronomy.
Deadline for applications is January 15, 2022
Further information about the position and application procedure may be obtained from Jan Arlt (arlt@phys.au.dk).
Application procedure
Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants.
Letter of reference
If you want a referee to upload a letter of reference on your behalf, please state the referee’s contact information when you submit your application. We strongly recommend that you make an agreement with the person in question before you enter the referee’s contact information, and that you ensure that the referee has enough time to write the letter of reference before the application deadline. Unfortunately, it is not possible to ensure that letters of reference received after the application deadline will be taken into consideration.
