Post-doctoral position in Theoretical Condensed Matter physics - ultracold atoms

position expired
Université Paris Diderot, Paris, France
A post-doctoral position is currently open in the Theory group of the laboratory MPQ in the Paris Diderot campus. We are seeking for a qualified candidate to reinforce our research activity on condensed matter physics with cold atoms and photons. Spin-imbalanced Fermi gases in low dimensions provide realization of exotic superfluid states of matter, called FFLO states, which are of importance for several branches of physics, ranging from condensed matter to astrophysics and high energy physics. The candidate will perform numerical simulations of generalized Hubbard models describing strongly interacting Bose-Fermi mixtures confined in 1D or 2D geometries by optical lattices. The main goal is to study how the presence of the bosons affects the superfluid properties of the system, in order to compare with ongoing experimental activities at ENS (group of C. Salomon and F. Chevy). Most of the numerical methods to be used are already implemented in open-source libraries, like ALPS (Algorithms and Libraries for Physics Simulations). The requested skills are in numerical physics with application to atomic, solid-state, statistical or theoretical physics. A good knowledge of the physics of cold atomic gases would be appreciated. Applicants should send their CV, including publication list and the contacts of up to three reference persons to G. Orso (giuliano.orso@univ-paris-diderot.fr). The appointment is for 15 months starting preferably by January/February 2018. Applications will be considered until the position is filled.
