PhD Studenships in Bose-Einstein Condensation
position expired
Durham University, UK.
The Durham Atomic and Molecular physics group are seeking highly motivated individuals interested in pursuing experimental research in the field of laser cooling and quantum degenerate gases. Specifically, we invite applications for two PhD studentships to study: (1) The dynamics and quantum reflection of bright-matter wave solitons formed during the collapse of attractive Bose-Einstein condensates and (2) The formation of ultracold heteronuclear molecules from a quantum degenerate mixture of two distinct Bose gases. These positions begin in October 2008, are funded for the full three-and-a-half year duration of the UK graduate program and are open to candidates from the UK and EU. Further details on both projects can be found on the group website. All enquiries should be addressed to Dr. Simon Cornish (email: s.l.cornish@durham.ac.uk ).
