position expired
AMOP Group, Cambridge, UK
The Department of Physics invites applications for a University Lectureship within its Atomic, Mesoscopic & Optical Physics (AMOP) research group. The successful candidate is expected to perform independent and internationally leading experimental research in the broadly construed area of quantum coherence. This broad area is a mainstay of the Department's research and teaching, and we are seeking candidates who can both enhance and complement the current research activity. Research in the AMOP group includes studies of both ultracold atomic gases and solid-state systems. More details about the group can be found at http://www.amop.phy.cam.ac.uk/. Applicants should have a PhD and a strong track record in relevant research, as well as demonstrated ability to teach successfully at undergraduate and graduate level. The appointment will be for a probationary period of five years, with appointment to the retiring age thereafter, subject to satisfactory performance. The initial appointment at a level of University Lecturer approximately corresponds to the position of Assistant Professor in the US system. Further details of the post and the Cambridge system can be found at http://www.phy.cam.ac.uk/vacancies/. Applications, including a curriculum vitae, a statement (up to six pages) of research experience to date and research plans for the future, and a completed CHRIS/6 cover sheet (Parts I and III only), available at http://www.admin.cam.ac.uk/offices/hr/forms/chris6/, should be sent by email to the Head of Department's Office (email hod@phy.cam.ac.uk), to arrive no later than 15th January 2014. Candidates should ask three referees to write directly on their behalf to the Head of Department, Professor Andy Parker (email hod@phy.cam.ac.uk), by the closing date. Please quote reference KA01941 on your application and in any correspondence about this vacancy. The University values diversity and is committed to equality of opportunity. The University has a responsibility to ensure that all employees are eligible to live and work in the UK.
