Bose-Einstein condensates on a microchip

We have built a microchip-based magnetic trap where we can evaporate Rb atoms in less than 3s to Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC). The simple setup uses a standard magneto-optical trap, subsequent magnetic transport of the sample to within 60 mm of the chip surface, and microwave-induced forced evaporation to BEC.
