Postdoc position in experimental cold atom/molecule physics

Location
Durham University, UK

Description
The Atomic and Molecular Physics research group at Durham University is seeking to appoint a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to investigate the properties of an ultracold quantum gas of polar molecules. The project builds upon recent success in creating ultracold RbCs molecules in the rovibrational ground state and, in collaboration with leading theorists, will seek to develop a deeper understanding of molecular collisions and dipolar interactions in optical lattices. Ultimately the project contributes to on-going efforts to realise a quantum simulator using ultracold polar molecules. The successful applicant will join a team of postgraduate students working on an existing experiment funded by the UK Engineering and Physical Science Research Council (EPSRC).

The post is fixed term for a duration of 24 months. Salary will be on the standard UK system and commensurate with experience.

Prospective candidates should:

- have a PhD in experimental atomic physics

- have a clear record of achievement in atomic physics research at the highest level, specifically in the production and manipulation of ultracold atomic gases

- have a track record of high-impact publications and presentations at international conferences

- have excellent communication skills and an aptitude for working within a team
