Postdoctoral, ultrasensitive micro-magnetometry and magnetic imaging

Los Alamos National Lab

Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) invites applications for a postdoctoral position in the development of ultrasensitive micro-magnetometry and magnetic imaging under the direction of Dr. Igor Savukov. The work will be collaboratively performed with a team of experts in precision magnetic field measurements, nano-particle fabrication and detection, neuroscience, Magnetoencephalography (MEG), ultra-low field MRI, quantum–enabled sensing and related fields. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: PhD in physics, or related disciplines, within the last 6 years; a strong record of publications; general experimental skills with lasers and sensitive measurements. PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS: Substantial experience with lasers, optics, mechanical design, electronics, computer hardware, LabView; hands-on machine-shop experience; magnetic field generation and measurements; experimental atomic physics. TEAM: The team has a fully equipped atomic-magnetometer lab with magnetic shields, atomic magnetometers with fT sensitivity, multiple mu-metal shielded rooms, various SQUID magnetometers, ultra-low field MRI systems, NQR detection systems, MEG and EEG systems. A fully equipped machine shop is available for work independently, under supervision, or for job requests. SALARY: Highly competitive, with benefits. Precise salary depends on the number of years of post PhD research experience and other qualifications. ( POSITION AVAILABLE: October 2014; initial contract for 2 years, with possibilities for extension and/or conversion to LANL scientific staff. Equal Opportunity: Los Alamos National Laboratory is an equal opportunity employer and supports a diverse and inclusive workforce.
