Postdoctoral Position – Ultracold Rydberg Atom Physics – Rydberg Atom Interactions

The research group of James Shaffer at the University of Oklahoma

The project objective is to quantitatively compare calculations of anisotropic Rydberg atom-Rydberg atom interactions to measurements. The work will also involve studying high n novel trilobite states. All the experiments use laser cooled and dipole trapped samples of atoms. The research methods are ultrahigh vacuum, frequency stabilized laser systems, nonlinear optics, ion imaging spectroscopy, far off resonance dipole trapping and theoretical modeling of Rydberg atom interactions and molecules. The researcher will carry out experimental measurements at the cutting edge of atomic, molecular and optical physics. The theoretical modeling of the system will include the use of the OU supercomputer center. The researcher is expected to oversee and work with graduate students in the laboratory. The postdoctoral position will allow the researcher to gain valuable experience at a research university. Please contact Professor James P. Shaffer, Homer L.
