Optoelectronics 2006: Nanomanipulation with Light II

22 Jan 2006 - 27 Jan 2006
San Jose, California, USA

Abstract Due: 11 July 2005
Manuscript Due: 26 December 2005

This conference will cover a broad range of topics, including the detailed theoretical foundations, optical techniques for the experimental realization of beams with geometrically novel beam profiles, phase-bearing and intrinsically rotating beams of light, the utility of such beams in both classical and quantum contexts for manipulating various forms of matter in the bulk and in atomic or molecular form, cooling and trapping, the effects of the helicities of light and matter and their interactions in biophysical and chemical contexts, and in addition the potential of light endowed with quantized orbital angular momentum. A new feature this year is a special focus on optical forces in cold atoms and Bose-Einstein condensates.

Papers on these areas are solicited, focusing on any of the following or related topics:

  • optical tweezers and spanners
  • laser beam sculpting
  • optical vortices and phase discontinuities
  • singular optics
  • photon "orbital" angular momentum
  • sub-wavelength interactions
  • nano-optics and nanostructure devices
  • atom trapping and atom chips
  • laser cooling and trapping
  • Bose-Einstein condensates
  • single molecule interactions
  • biophotonics
  • nanoscale chirality
  • nanofabrication
